The 850i was a dream car of the 90ies that I really wanted to experience: the design mostly, but also the V12. It had been sitting for quite a while in a car dealer’s private collection when I bought it in 2018, with barely 52000 km on the clock, and still with it’s original owner’s German paperwork – it had never been registered in Luxembourg.
Very little needed to be done though to get it back on the road: the auto box was serviced by ZF as a preventive measure, shocks (Bilstein) and springs (Eibach) were replaced, as well as the complete set of silent blocks. The head mechanic of BMW Cloppenburg in nearby Trier knows 850s and took care of oil, filter and spark plugs. The water pump was replaced by the previous owner. Fuel filters were changed. Finally, the accumulator “bomb” in the breaking system was replaced (after having been unobtainium for a while).
A Wokke Performance V2 chip was installed to adjust for 95 octane fuel.
Other than that, the car is in original condition, the interior is as expected with such a low-mileage car. It is used regularly in nice weather conditions, including for a couple of longer trips per year.
The car’s MOT has been renewed for two years, it has historical license plates.
Had I not decided to sell it, I would have checked/replaced the ignition wiring, and replaced the exhaust.
